Large shopping centers, massive amusement parks and vast neighborhood playgrounds; there are a lot of places where parents can lose track of their sons or daughters. Even the most attentive parent is not immune to that sinking feeling or sudden panic.

While the world can be a scary place, there are many ways in which technology and innovation can create a safer environment for children. Cell phone makers like FiLIP, AT&T, BeLuvv and Tinitell make it easy to keep track of kids with the touch of a button. Parents can call, text and locate their child right from their phone. It’s a smart way to gain peace of mind if you’re worried about a child running off or getting lost in a crowd; and it beats attaching them to a leash.

Child leashes and safety harnesses have been criticized on morning talk shows like Today and in countless YouTube commercial parody videos. The approach to selling wearable GPS devices has been smart and sensible. Tinitell released a creative and humorous video to preview their merchandise. It directs parents to “keep in touch with your wild child.”

This ad displays the nature of a wandering child at play and how easy it is for you to keep in touch with voice messaging that is transmitted through the wrist phone. A child doesn’t even have to press a button to hear instructions to come to dinner.

BeLuvv spells it out in a plain, thought-provoking message; “Never lose your kid.”

It’s a message that far removes their product from comparison to “a leash.” The Guardian from BeLuvv and FiLIP wearable wrist phones each have a “SafeZone” feature that allows you to set up to five safe zones. The phones will detect when your child has left a safe zone and send you a notification. Amber Alert GPS from AT&T goes even further with the capability to send you notifications if your child is in a vehicle that travels at speeds above your comfort zone.

Convenience is also on display with the latest wearable cell phone locators. Not only can you program as many as five phone numbers into these next generation wearable phones, you can also limit which phone numbers can call your child’s locator. This equipment introduces children to cell phone technology without the need to buy into an expensive plan with the full extent of smart phone features.

For many parents, peace of mind is not always easy to find. Luckily with advancements in technology, you can now locate it on your child’s wrist.
