Last Friday, SKM celebrated another year by sipping a few cocktails, filling up on a delicious spread and laughing until we cried at our annual staff holiday party. Although we’re three weeks into 2015, we find the holidays to be somewhat chaotic, so every year we hold our party in January in an effort to celebrate with as many SKMers as possible. Needless to say, it was a success and with nearly 90 attendees, we had a lot of celebrating to do.
Held at Pearl Street Grill & Brewery in downtown Buffalo, we had the entire 4th floor of the venue for all of our SKM and non-SKM guests. Not only was it a great showing, the best part was that we didn’t need to worry about a thing! Pearl Street delivered, providing adorable decorations, superb service, an excellent menu and most importantly, a fully-stocked bar.
The night started out with a variety of appetizers set up at different tables throughout the room. Bruschetta, bacon-wrapped scallops and mini quesadillas seemed to be the crowd favorites. After an hour or so of apps, cocktails and mingling, we hit the buffet where we had a steady fill of chicken, filet and tortellini alongside salad, bread sticks and veggies. Dinner lasted about an hour and guests caught up with coworkers, met spouses and friends and shared stories from around the office.
The real fun started shortly thereafter, when our entertainment for the evening grabbed the mic. Local comedians Greg Bauch, Brian Herberger and Kate Anderson delivered laugh-out-loud-until-tears-fall-down-your-face routines. Greg, a recent addition to our SKM family, managed to sneak in a few jokes about the agency and fellow employees, while Brian and Kate charmed us with slightly inappropriate yet hysterical sets. All three comics were very well received and many of us agreed that they were the highlight of the night.
Throughout the evening we raffled off prizes that included, but were not limited to, gift cards from local restaurants, passes for water parks and tickets to local events. A well-deserved thank you goes out to our media team for helping us secure the prizes and making sure every SKMer went home a winner.
To cap off the night, we indulged in an ice cream sundae bar filled cookies, brownies and all the fixings. Despite the near freezing temps, everyone seemed pretty excited to enjoy a traditional summer treat, even in the dead of winter.
The party was a hit and to say we enjoyed ourselves would be an understatement. Our work hard play hard mentality keeps us on our toes throughout the year and, lucky for us, our success in 2014 was rewarded in a big way on Friday. Cheers to another great year, SKM! Looking forward to seeing what this year has in store.
